Sigma Chi's Derby Days!

This week is Sigma Chi's Derby Days! This is the biggest philanthropy on campus which consists of a number of events all week which the seven sororities on campus participate in!

Here are some of the rules!

Derby Grab: Every day, the Brothers of Sigma Chi will be wearing Derbies (Bowler Hats) around campus.  All derbies must be stolen on campus only.  The object is to steal the hat from the brother.  Make sure that you let the brother know which sorority you are a part of when you steal his derby to ensure that the correct points are added to the correct sorority.  The Derby Grab will run from 8am-4pm Monday-Thursday, and your stolen derby must be turned in by 4:30 pm at the Greek Life Office in order to receive points.  For each derby grabbed, the stealing sorority will receive 50 points towards their sorority’s total points.  Each sister may only grab one derby per day, so the more sisters you have participating the better chance you have of getting derbies.  The generic derbies will be Yellow and Blue, but every day two brothers will be wearing white derbies.  These are the money derbies and are worth double points, or 100 points.  On Thursday, sororities may decorate their derbies, which they steal that day.  Sororities will NOT be allowed to buy derbies and decorate the purchased derbies, they may only use the ones that they steal on Thursday, so work hard on Thursday!  Bring the decorated derbies to the Rock-A-Thon on Thursday and they will be judged by a panel of brothers.  The top three designs will be rewarded 500 points, 250 points, and 100 points respectively for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

Penny Wars: Penny Wars will also last Monday-Thursday.  Each sorority will have a bucket in the Greek Life Office that they can put pennies in during the course of the week.  For each penny that a sorority has in their bucket, they will receive one point.  You can also put silver and dollar bills in other sororities’ bucks for negative points (so a nickel is –5, a dime is –10, $1 is -100 etc….).  The competition will end Thursday at 5pm and will be collected as well as counted for points by the brothers.  All coins can be put into the bucket at any time until this point.

Shirts: From Monday-Friday, sisters can make Sigma Chi Derby Days shirts and wear them around campus.  Each individual sister can only make one shirt per day and can only receive points for that shirt once.  In other words, they cannot wear the same shirt two days in a row or get points for the same shirt from two different brothers.  In order to receive the points you must show your shirt to a brother and he will take down your name and sorority. Shirts will be signed or marked, so sisters cannot wear a shirt that has already been worn by herself or another sister. Each shirt will be worth 200 points.

Sign-In Wars: On Monday, each sorority will have a sign-in sheet in the Greek Life office.  You will have until 5pm to go and sign your name on your sorority’s list.  Signatures will be the percentage based out of a possible 1,250 pts. Double points will be awarded to sororities that have 100% participation. 2,500 Possible points!!!!

Sign-A-Sig: On Tuesday, every brother will be wearing a white t-shirt marked with our letters on the front and back, so we can be recognized by sororities.  If you see a brother, run up to him and sign your name and sorority on his shirt.  Each sorority can gain up to 3,750 points. Scores are determined by percentage participation, so everyone participate!   Sisters can sign shirts up until midnight Tuesday night; sign as many as you can! Double points will be awarded to sororities that have 100% participation and 100% of the Brothers signed.  7,500 Possible Points!!!!

Olympics: The explanation of each event will be done at the beginning of the event.  Time and location of the event will is TBA and your representative will let you know.  The 1st place team will get 1250 points, 2nd will receive 1000, 3rd will receive 750, 4th will receive 500, 5th will receive 250, 6th will receive 0 points.
